Largest solar power plant under construction in Pakistan

Pakistan is building its first solar power plant, which will be the largest in the world. Despite the fact that the sun is more than enough, until recently, the country did not quote green electricity.

Pakistan needs a stable electricity supply. An environmental disaster is already looming here, and the construction of a solar station could help solve this problem.

The future Queid-i-Azam solar power plant is planned to be built in several queues. The first unit with a capacity of 100 MW will appear in 2014, then the capacity of the station will be 1 GW by the end of 2016, up to 1.5 GW. The area under the panels in the final version will occupy 14 thousand hectares.

Pakistan is preparing to introduce a system of preferential tariffs for the purchase of solar electricity to support this and future solar projects. Its rate will fluctuate depending on the region, but on average will be about 20 US cents per kilowatt hour, with a gradual decrease over 10 years to 8.3 cents.
