The study — the person decides before it realizes

As you know, the first impression about a person is based on his appearance and behavior. A new study has shown that it occurs before we have time to think about it.

Researchers from Melbourne say they can predict human emotions in a graphic depiction of the electrical process in the brain. And people may not even know that his brain has already decided. Scientists hope that the results of the study will help them learn more about impulsive decisions.

The study was led by Dr. Stefan Bode from the School of applied psychology in Melbourne and Dr. Carsten Muravschi from the University of Melbourne (Australia). Using the method of electroencephalography, the specialists measured the electrical brain activity of volunteers when they looked at the different pictures. The participants of the experiment were shown pictures of food, scenes of everyday life and status symbols such as cars and money.

After the EEG, the subjects were again shown the same pictures and asked questions at each of them. For example, asked what impressions they left behind, and what made me think.

Decoding brain activity helped researchers to predict which solutions are most likely to take subjects after seeing.

We found that when viewing photos in the brain is the coding decisions with reference to time, and without the knowledge of the viewer. In addition, our results show that specific images to encourage people to think about the present or future, — said the researchers.

The brain activity of participants was recorded before they learned about the survey with the subsequent decision.

According to scientists, the results of the study will help to better understand impulsive behavior, especially if it caused by advertising hints that abound in the modern world. For example, you can see the processes occurring in the human brain that tries to get rid of gambling addiction, under the influence of advertising.

Our results show that even if such a person tries to ignore advertising, the brain can unconsciously process the information and return the earlier model of behavior.

The researchers say that with the same success it is possible to regulate impulsive behavior. For example, photographs, referring to the future, you can set the human mind at a certain scenario in the future.

The study was conducted with the participation of specialists from the University of Cologne in Germany. The results were published in the journal PLoS One. published
