Back in 2010, French photographer Thierry Cohen (Thierry Cohen) came up with the idea of the amazing project he decided to show how it could look like major metropolises without illumination. No artificial lighting – only the shining of the stars.

First Thierry photographed urban panoramas, and then combined them with photos of the sky taken away from the city, but at the same latitude. The result is a photo with the apocalyptic title of Villes eteintes ("City in darkness").

The aim of the priest was to raise awareness of people about the so-called "light pollution", which has the second name – "light smog". Light could be created by street lighting. It is associated with the overconsumption of energy and a detrimental effect on the ecosystem.

Thierry Cohen was born in 1963 in France. He started his professional career in 1985, in the late ' 80s one of the first to switch to digital methods. He currently lives and works in Paris. His works are in private and public collections around the world. Since 2010 in the framework of the project Villes eteintes working to raise awareness about the effects of light pollution.
