The Power of Instincts: How We Misunderstand Our Freedom of Choice

In studying the nature of suffering, I discovered on a new level how we are mistaken about our freedom of choice. This is like the freedom of choice of the inhabitants of the Matrix within the matrix, where the matrix is our physiological nature.

We live under the dictates of the need to increase our safety, pleasure and comfort.Need from the inside forms a picture (dream, script, dream) in which everything is arranged perfectly to meet the needs. Each dream is completely unique in its details, as it is conditioned by individual experience, but there are common features between all dreams: they satisfy physiological and social needs. I also consider the social need to be physiological. Driven by this picture, we automatically filter the surrounding world and its elements (actions, objects, people) as suitable for this picture and not suitable, striving to fill our lives with the maximum number of suitable ones. And, in general, there is nothing wrong with this, because this process ensures our survival. Mental suffering is the result of a deep belief that this is life when we are inside this scenario and automatically follow it, unaware that this picture is a unique product of individual perception that cannot be embodied in reality for a variety of reasons. First, complete satisfaction is not achievable, because, having saturated and digested food, we again feel hungry. Satisfaction is always short-lived. And when we get what we want and adapt to it, we start wanting more. This is the nature of desire, the main engine of progress. Third, when it comes to the satisfaction of such needs as sexual and social, that is, those that are associated with other people, we inevitably encounter the fact that every other person lives within his unique picture-matrix, moves it and it can intersect with ours only very superficially. For example, when people dream of going on a trip, each of them imagines their own journey, and in a real trip they inevitably find that their ideas about how it should be different. Travel can mean any joint business, creating a family or pastime. Suffering begins when we cling to the script, refuse to let it go, and begin to fight the surrounding reality for it to fit into our plan-project, resent and punish others for not fitting in. And they resent us and punish us for not fitting into their picture. This is certainly not a new idea. But it's always relevant. If you are suffering, you are clinging to a coveted script that cannot be executed simply because it is the product of your need-driven fantasies and nothing more. The sad thing is that in the battle for this, arsenals of weapons are wasted, a huge amount of mental and physical strength is lost, and the current reality is missed, in which, in fact, all is well. Not as in your script, but quite satisfying. I mean, enough for a living. What do we do?Don't avoid disappointment. When I say "disappointment," I mean distinguishing between picture and reality, and recognizing their incompatibility, not sprinkling ash on your head. Frustration usually means resentment against yourself and/or the world for not matching the picture. Literally, frustration is about lifting the spell of sleep that dictates your needs. It is difficult to be disappointed, because then it is not clear what to do with the needs, with these seven shops that demand to eat. But it's a separate topic. First you need to remove the spell of sleep. I invite you to practice. And where to put the script, so beautiful, nurtured fantasies. Well, it's easier, I write a movie from them, for example. Don't be lost. Prepared by Nina Rubstein P.S. And remember, just by changing your consciousness – together we change the world!
