The hierarchy of the mind, intelligence and senses
What is the difference of the mind from reason, what are their functions and how to control the senses. Having dealt with these phenomena, their functions and features, we can learn to manage them, to make their lives more harmony and happiness.
In the Vedas, particularly the Bhagavad Gita, it is said that the senses are superior to dead matter, above the senses is the mind (managing them), and above the mind is intelligence, but above them all is the soul, our consciousness in its purest form.
Ten million four hundred thirty seven thousand five hundred twenty three
In this case, feelings and emotions is not the same thing as we're talking about the five sense perceptions – hearing, sight, smell, touch and taste. Through the five senses we receive information about the outside world – this is the function of the senses. Senses controlled by the mind, which directs them to a particular object, and send mind information.
With regard to the mind, in addition to the analysis and control of the body and the senses, its main function is acceptance and rejection. The mind stretches to the pleasant and reject the unpleasant. We want comfort, a variety of pleasant sensations, of pleasure, and do everything to get what you want – this is due to the workings of the mind. The mind through the senses, trying to get as much enjoyment. In the Caitanya-caritamrta it is also stated that the function of the mind — thinking, feeling and willing.
What is the difference of the mind from the mind and what is mind in General? Mind, according to the Vedas, is above the mind, it is more subtle than the mind and feelings. The main function of the mind is the adoption of beneficial (good) and the rejection of noxious (dangerous, harsh).
We can see that the functions of the mind and the mind is very similar acceptance and rejection, but the difference is that the mind is guided by the idea "to the pleasant and reject the unpleasant", while mind is more far-sighted in determining what is useful and what is harmful. The mind says either "want" or "do not want", and the mind appreciates: "it would be a good thing" or "it will bring problems and troubles".
If the person is reasonable, i.e. has a strong, strong mind, he does not go on about the mind and the senses, and consider their desires in terms of "it will bring me benefit or harm?"Foolish man is guided only by the desires of the mind, which tends to get the most pleasant sensations, and not particularly think about the consequences of such pleasures. The mind can be a pleasant feeling of intoxication, driving fast, or any other treats (individually), while the mind looks at the possible consequences of such actions and pleasures, and makes adjustments, forcing people to come to their senses and stops in time.
Homo sapiens therefore, is reasonable that he was given intelligence, this is the characteristic of man, but the mind is not always stronger than the mind, especially in our time: we can see many irrational human actions and deeds that lead to undesirable and negative consequences. One mind is not enough for a normal life; a person can be smart, educated, savvy, a recognized expert in some field of activity and even genius, but does not guarantee its reasonableness.
Assessing the situation from the standpoint of reason, we can avoid many mistakes and unpleasant consequences of their actions. People with a highly developed mind that can in General predict your future according to your current behavior. This is one reason why you need to listen to the unworldly old man – they know what actions the consequences.
Whether you need to control your feelings, and if so, how to do it? Yeah, I need to control because they are voracious, and if you give them the will to no good it will not. For example, gaining pleasant feelings from alcohol or drugs, the person can gradually become an alcoholic or become a drug addict; indulging their sexual desires and walking the "left-right", you can pick up a venereal disease; in pursuit of big money you can lose your mind and find yourself in jail. And so on.
Our senses are insatiable by nature: the more they give, the more you want, so clearly, the feelings need to be controlled. When the senses are "cleared" and control is much more difficult, so it is important not to run the situation. But how can one control their feelings?
Here you need to understand that the mind cannot correctly control feelings, as it is, in fact, and directs them to having fun (getting fun), not caring about the consequences. The mind itself needs to be controlled and proper guidance from "above".
Therefore, the proper control of the senses is only possible with a strong mind, which anticipates the consequences, and therefore may give a correct assessment of our desires and actions.
Have a truly intelligent human mind is stronger than the mind, so his mind and senses are under the control of reason, which eliminates a lot of trouble in his life. published
