Volkswagen’s new director promises to improve the environmental friendliness of engines in October

The new director of Volkswagen Mathias Müller has promised that in October the company will prepare software fixes of cars that became the cause of the scandal with the forgery of tests for environmental emissions.

He called it “the largest inspection of the company in its history” and added that “together with [our employees] we want to prove to the world that Volkswagen deserves the trust of the public.”

Martin Winterkorn, the company's previous director, resigned last week over the scandal. In addition, since September 18, when the situation was widely publicized, the company's shares have fallen by 40%.

The problem is that the exhaust of cars with two-liter diesel engines of Volkswagen was ten times less environmentally friendly than was stated by the results of tests. The car computer deliberately changed the engine mode so that good exhaust results were obtained on tests. In total, 11 million cars were produced with such engines.

Mueller promises to fix everything.

Mueller claims that while the ability to change engine mode is indeed present on all of these cars, the necessary software was activated "only on some of them." Unfortunately, he did not specify which one.

In addition, it is unclear in what mode the engines will start to work after the "correction" Whether they will become as economical as before. It was the fame of the special economy of these engines that prompted the company's management to go forgery with tests.

Herbert Diess, VW’s head of brand Europe, met with European Commissioner for Industry and Market Elzbieta Bienkowska on Tuesday to discuss the consequences of the incident and how to deal with the situation. The results of the negotiations will be known later. published
