System Lear will turn an ordinary car in SmartCar
Auto parts supplier Lear decided to catch the Zeitgeist. The company develops embedded system for cars, which will allow them to interact with other road users and urban infrastructure. The main feature of the development will be improved security with protection from malicious systems.
About the company's plans told the Vice-President of the Department of connectedness Lear Praveen Singh. He noted that the company will develop a modular system in the next few years. The smart component will allow cars to communicate with each other, to receive signals from all city infrastructure, for example, connected roads and traffic lights, and also connect to cloud services. Since the device is modular, manufacturers will be able to modify it.
At Lear there is a competitive advantage — last year the company acquired a startup Arada Systems, which produces infrastructure components for smart cities. The equipment AS installed in the Central part of Detroit and Michigan. With it, cars can gain access to external networks, i.e. to other cars and traffic lights.
Arada is also engaged in the research of cyber security, as connecting vehicles to each other creates a suitable loophole for malicious systems.
Release from Lear solve the security issue by using two solutions: replacement of equipment and regular system updates wirelessly.
The development of connected systems now are engaged in many companies, including giants. In early July, Samsung and Volkswagen have announced a collaboration platform for connected cars. Machines will be equipped with a system of information and entertainment. In addition, they will be able to connect to services and smart home to control lights, security systems and household appliances. published
