The last fifty UK coal power plants will be closed for ten years - these are the plans of the Government. Representatives of the authorities have already stated that it will help to move towards a "safe, acceptable and clean energy." From 2023 will be put on the prohibition of all power plants that run on coal, and by 2025 all of the remaining stations will be closed.

Currently, most of the UK electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels. The proportion of coal is - 28%, while most of the energy, 48% is derived from natural gas. NPPs provide an additional 16% of the energy, but by 2023 the majority of the country's nuclear power plants are already obsolete and will be gradually closed. The government is now looking for an opportunity to invest in a more robust form of atomic energy (perhaps meant thermonuclear).

"Now we are trying to solve the problem of the legacy of older types of power plants, we need to replace more reliable alternative energy sources to help reduce emissions of harmful substances and will be more profitable in economic terms», - сообщил head of the Department of Energy and Climate Change Amber Rudd (Amber Rudd). "In a developed economy like ours can not be a satisfactory situation, when the country depends on the work of dirty coal power plants age in half a century," - said Rudd Government's decision.

By reducing CO2 emissions and investment in "new energy infrastructure that meets the 21st century," the government hopes to increase the use of renewable energy sources like wind, waves, water, biomass and solar energy. This will help the country achieve the objectives of the directive Evrosyuza Renewable Energy, one of the points which would increase the production of energy from renewable sources in the UK until at least 30%.

Although the government no longer subsidizes the creation of onshore wind power, private power companies are still investing heavily in projects related to renewable energy in the country. Last month, the largest Danish company Dong and Norway's Statoil announced plans to build the world's largest onshore and floating wind farms.
