Almaz "Cuban Capitol"



Yellow diamond weighing 23 carats was purchased in 1928 in Paris for £ 8,000; the amount collected by subscription among workers employed in the construction of the building at the time of the Cuban Capitol in Havana.


Rimmed in platinum and gold, the diamond was cut into the marble floor of the lobby separating the Senate and House of Representatives, below the center of eight-pointed star, the rays of which were oriented to the cardinal. From the diamond both from the point of initial count was conducted distances by road Cuba, March 25, 1946 the diamond was stolen, but later found and returned to the Capitol.
