The flame of a candle has diamonds

"No one knows what is in a candle flame" - with this phrase began a scientific investigation the results of which struck the scientists. The flames were found four carbon modifications, including diamonds.

The first candle appeared about 200 years before the Christian era in China. Although in this age of the candle - it is rather an attribute of Decorative Arts, its flame could be the subject of scientific research.

It all started with the fact that the acquaintance of Professor Zhou studying combustion processes, once said that none of the scientists are not seriously investigated the composition of the flame. Then Utszun decided to fill this gap in knowledge.

He and his colleagues from the literature found that the hydrocarbons, which are at the base of the flame, the output becomes carbon dioxide.

Then, using the anodic-oxidized aluminum film researchers collected the products of combustion and found in the center of the flame four major modification of carbon: diamond, graphite, fullerenes and amorphous particles.

Such a result was genuinely surprised scientists, because all forms are produced under different conditions. And certainly no one expected that diamond nanoparticles in the second there is about a half million.
