The new laser for eye microsurgery does not burn, and vaporizes the damaged tissue

Scientists from Yaroslavl Eye Microsurgery Clinic has once again improved the mobile laser system for vision correction. According to experts, the weight of the new device "Olympus-2000/213" is only 6 kg, whereas his predecessor weighed 48 kg. Accordingly, it has become easier and the entire hardware system (85 kg) while Japanese and American counterparts weighing 750 and 600 kilograms, respectively. In addition, the installation consumes much less power: for her work is now missing only 300 watts, almost 17 times less than it was before (5 kW).

Another innovation of the new modifications that for ultraviolet energy in the device instead of gas used artificial crystal garnet - says one of the developers of Alexander Tikhov.

One of the developers, Alexander Tikhov noticed that the ultraviolet energy is generated in the device is not using the gas that has characterized previous systems, and thanks to artificial crystals of garnet. A distinctive feature of this method is to obtain a sustainable energy is well distributed in the beam. Thus, physicians can perform sparing surgery, during which the damaged tissue is not burned, and evaporate. According to doctors, the new laser is not only applicable in ophthalmology, but in gynecology, treatment of ENT diseases, neurosurgery, and even in aerospace and electronics industries. "Olympus" much better characteristics similar to a Japanese installation, which is not intended for the treatment of astigmatism and presbyopia.

Development, implementation and production of laser medical equipment - "horse" of scientists from Yaroslavl Eye Microsurgery Clinic and the main direction in the work since 1998. They created the first Russian excimer laser scanning for eye microsurgery and prototypes of the current mobile unit, lasers "Olympus-2000" and "Olympus-3000».
