There are blood and Junior Lanzhereys

Researchers from the University of Vermont in Burlington has been identified two proteins on the surface of red blood cells, which are responsible for two entirely new blood type, called Lanzhereys (Langereis) and Junior (Junior).

Such antigens, both junior and Lanzhereys were identified about 10 years ago, a pregnant resident of Japan, which was under a storm of miscarriage because of her unexplained blood group incompatibility blood group of the fetus. However, the molecular genetic basis of this phenomenon remained unclear.

Scientists from Burlington, together with colleagues from France and Japan recovered from the cell surface of red blood cells two proteins - AVSV6 AVSG2 and which relate to transport proteins, metabolites and proteins transporting various kinds of ions in and out of the cell. This was followed by tests conducted at the genetic level, confirming the close relationship of these proteins with the formation of blood systems of antigenic types Lanzhereys and Junior.

The researchers also established a link newly discovered proteins with a strong resistance to various anticancer drugs actions, which are used in particular for the fight against breast cancer.

According Ballifa to date may still be undiscovered 10-15 blood group systems.
