From someone else's talk on the phone to your brain becomes ill

More precisely, only half of the conversation. Often in public places we hear how one person discusses something on the phone with another person, and agree that it is annoying and a distraction from the task you are trying to focus, even if just to buy bread. You are not alone: according to statistics, 82% of people react negatively to another's loud talk on the phone.

Psychologists from the University of San Diego, led by Veronica Galvan decided to find out how it affects the human brain overheard a telephone conversation.

The study involved 150 volunteers. Their task was to make of the letters of the word, eg, "OMD" make "home". At the same time they had to "listen in" someone else's conversation, with half of the subjects present at the "casual" conversation between two scientists in the same room with them, and the other half heard talking on the phone man. The subject of discussion was the typical everyday issues such as the discussion of the New Year gift.

People only hear part of the conversation, often distracted and completing quests worse. Moreover, most managed to retell heard the phrase, while on a conversation between two people almost did not react.

The reason for this is that the telephone conversation is less predictable, because we hear only one side, and it makes our brain to pay attention to what he heard raised - as he tries to reconstruct the events.
