The "Inglourious Basterds" were real prototypes - "The Avengers", the Nazis killed hundreds
"The Avengers": worst nightmare natsista
Despite the fact that the Nazis killed 11 million people, many of them escaped punishment: in West Germany were about 13 million men and women, one way or another contributed to the Holocaust - the agents of the Gestapo and the SS. However, four years after the surrender of Germany had arrested only 300 people.
Abba Kovner is not satisfied. He was a Jew who survived the Holocaust and fled from the Vilnius ghetto. He joined a group of resistance fighters and fought against the Nazis, eventually freeing the most ghetto, where languishing in prison. And after the war, Kovner began to take revenge on those who killed six million of its people - and he was not the only one.
In 1945, Kovner became the leader of the Jewish guerrilla group called «Nokmim» - Hebrew for "The Avengers", whose main goal was revenge.
First, they hunted down Nazis one by one. Posing as representatives of the authorities, they produced fake arrests, but "detainees" in prison cells did not fall: often "Avengers" broke into the homes of people who had previously worked in the death camps, and hang them in the garage, so that it looked like a suicide. "The Avengers" even entered the hospital where he lay Gestapo agent, and led him into a vein kerosene.
Kovner was not happy with the results, he believed in the principle of "an eye for an eye" and believed that the death of six million Germans will not be enough. Then, "The Avengers" developed a plan to poison water supplies in Munich, Berlin, Weimar, Nuremberg and Hamburg.
Kovner went to Israel and asked the future president Chaim Weizmann for help: There are rumors that he gave him the poison, but most Israeli leaders, fortunately, were horrified by the plan Kovner and gave it to the British government. On his return to Europe, Kovner was arrested, and the plan did not materialize.
Nevertheless, "The Avengers" have decided to poison at least a few thousands of German prisoners of war, once to the civilian population was not reached. In April 1946, a group of poisoned in prison bakery 3,000 loaves of bread, killing 1,000 to 1,900 prisoners.
The group "Avengers" existed until 1950, and in the end, the movement collapsed. Perhaps their original purpose, and to be fair, but "The Avengers" clearly prove that the hatred of the people - a quality inherent in not only the Nazis.
