Concept art canceled film about "strangers"

Director of the film "District number 9" Neil Blomkamp was once attracted to the creation of the next sequel to the film "Alien." However, the project was canceled in mid-2014, and a few months later Neil decided to share with concept art from an abandoned painting. I can not imagine what went wrong.
