Microsoft earned $ 1 billion on the licensing of Android-devices Samsung last year

Habré already once wrote that Microsoft gets a respectable income from license fees paid by manufacturers of Android-devices. In the platform there are several technologies, patents are owned by Microsoft, and the company earns on each sale devices on Android OS.

But what is the size of earnings? This information, for obvious reasons, was not disclosed, but the other day it was reported that in the past year, Microsoft has made billions of dollars on license fees from Samsung.

information became available after the Redmond company sued Samsung for non-payment of penalty interest on arrears fees. The fact is that in 2011 between Samsung and Microsoft signed an agreement just two, and the license agreement on the business partnership. The first agreement provides for the need to charge for each manufactured Samsung Android- device.

South Korean corporation duly paid all royalties, but this year is in arrear (considering that the purchase by Microsoft, Nokia is contrary to the agreement), and refused to pay interest on delay. Percent is not much, 6.9 million US dollars, but the Redmond giant has decided to defend this amount in court.

Probably, Samsung will still have to give way to Microsoft in this dispute, although court decisions on patent disputes can be very surprising.
