The experimental plastic house in Leningrad

In 1961 in Leningrad Torzhkovskaya street it was built on the unique standards of building an experimental house. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it was made of plastic! In fact, the house was two stories. The ground floor was a technical, where the various communication and installation of air heating and ventilation. The walls were a technical floor in the form of reinforced concrete frame filled with glass. Plastic is the top (residential) floor, raised 2 meters 20 centimeters above ground level.

Unfortunately, the plastic house to this day not lived. So now it looks the place where he once stood.

The building in the photo on the left has an address Torzhkovskaya ul., D. 24, housing 2 - now it works teenagers and youth club "Youth". In the distance you can see the typical four-story building, which is now located in the Palace of Children and Youth.
The authors of the pilot house of plastics were the architect AP Shcherbenok and engineer LG Levinsky.

The walls of the house were mounted panels, which are made of two layers of durable fiberglass with a prisoner between them a layer of polystyrene (to act as a heater). The maximum wall thickness reached 14 centimeters, they gave stiffness skorlupnye original design. Engineers experimenters then calculated that the heat-shielding properties of the plastic "sandwiches" will be equal to two-meter brick wall.

The plastic house of projected one-room apartment with kitchen, combined bathroom, storage area and a small terrace. The authors of the experiment came up with the maximum number of elements of plastics huge windows were made of plexiglass tubes of vinyl plastic, wallpaper of the PVC film on a paper basis.

This small house no one lived. The main purpose of the experiment was to test the possibilities of manufacturing various construction products made of plastics, as well as the study of operational parameters of plastic buildings.
According to the analysis and synthesis of the three-year observation of the first domestic, fully plastic house from mid-60s moved to the practical implementation of plastics in construction. In Moscow, in the 4th lane Vjatskom plastic five-storey building was built.

The experiment was widely covered in the press. In addition to national publications, from highly specialized to popular science, photography Leningrad plastic house appeared in foreign magazines.

It should be noted that the Soviet plastic house was not unique in the world. In 1957, the plastic "House of the Future" was built at Disneyland:

In 1963, Dieter Schmidt built his plastic house, structurally similar to the Leningrad fellow.

In 1969 in Germany, was built another plastic house, surpassing the size of their predecessors:
The first domestic plastic house was the laboratory for three years. And then just forget about it. House slowly dilapidated, destroyed by time and vandals. In the end, the remains of his demolished.
