Exploration of deep space (29 photos)

Project NASA Deep Space Network Goldstone consists of three complexes located in remote locations around the world, far from settlements that stray radio waves do not cause interference. One set in the desert Mohan, another near Madrid (Spain), and the third near Canberra (Australia).

The photograph - Mars antenna, the largest of the entire complex. 70 meters in width and about 80 in height. The cost of the device - about $ 20 million.

Inside the control room center signal processing technology is constantly calibrated signals and carry out maintenance. Once signal capture antenna, it is fed to a special device maser which is used in radio telescopes as extremely low noise power amplifier.
It operates at low temperatures (approximately -4 degrees Kelvin) and cooled by compressed helium.

The main objective of the project NASA - search for extraterrestrial radio sources. In other words - green men :)
