Russia repeated Soviet record for most Olympic medals
Russian Olympic team at the Games in Sochi repeated once two medal record: Soviet - the total number of medals won at a single Olympics, and Russia - the number of gold medals won.
This happened when the Russian biathletes won gold in the men's relay. Victory of the Russian team brought Alexei Volkov, Evgeny Ustyugov Dmitry Malyshko and Anton SHipulin.
The first place men's biathlon team also brought Russia into the informal leaders medal standings Sochi 2014. Norwegians are second with 11 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Soviet medal record was set at the Games in Calgary in 1988. Then the USSR national team won 29 medals, including 11 gold. Russian record for the number of gold medals was established in 1994 in Lillehammer. Then our team managed to win 11 gold medals. Total Russians won 23 medals in Lillehammer.
