Ellis Island, which is located in New York at the time was the largest point of the immigrants in the United States. One of the chiefs in the registrations in August Sherman photographed immigration detainees. It is thanks to him that today you can see these interesting and high quality portraits. For the first time some of these photographs from the collection of the Sherman were published in the journal "Nashional Geographic" in 1907.
