Grigori Perelman is a brilliant and outstanding Russian mathematician who proved the Poincaré conjecture. In the 90s he literally turned upside down world scientific community for his work in mathematics, physics and geometry, but he found the world-famous thanks to the proof of the Poincaré conjecture and the abandonment of monetary rewards for their labors.
