Vintage globe in the hands of the Belgian

Globe recently discovered shell ostrich eggs, dated from the beginning of the XVI century, may be the most ancient globe, which shows the New World. Globe covered with inscriptions in Latin. North America it looks like two small islands. The origin of the globe remains unknown.

Globus has long belonged to merchants old things. In 2012 at an exhibition in London Map object acquired Belgian collector Stephen Missinn.

So far, the oldest globe on which was a picture of North America, was considered Globe Hunt-Lenox. It was made of copper somewhere between 1504 and 1506's. Both the globe have similar signs and paths. Stefan Missinn says it is not a coincidence, but recognizes that both the globe are slightly different. According to the collector, globe made of ostrich eggs, itself is unique, even if we do not take into account his age.

The creator of the globe is not yet known, but scientists suspect that this model of the world, in all probability, is connected in some way with a workshop of Leonardo da Vinci. The reason for these assumptions was the presence of a certain similarity between the ship painted on the globe and illustrations of the artist, who was well acquainted with Leonardo.
