Ring that glows when next favorite
American engineer Ben Kouks (Ben Kokes) fashioned wedding ring with a resonant transformer and three small LEDs among the gems to offer his hand and heart to his girlfriend.
The idea is that when the groom takes the bride's hand, the ring glows.
The entire process is documented in the blog author. The first step is a project created in AutoCAD for 3D-modeling: it is necessary to calculate that after adding the details of the ring came the correct inner diameter, the size of the stones and pits under them, as well as the distance between the grooves.
Ring right diameter machined from titanium ingots.
Drill made recesses for gems
The blank is cut and polished
Then carefully glued stones.
To make the backlight author realized resonant transformer which performs wireless transmission of energy between the two coils, each of which is incorporated in the oscillating circuit at resonance frequencies close. Ben Kouks introduced into the ring copper coil with a capacitor connected in parallel to the circuit three LEDs. C to 820 pF capacitor resonant frequency was 1, 5 MHz.
Coil transmitter with power supply groom should wear on his arm. Transmitter design borrowed here. The device went pretty massive, but it still can be discreetly hidden in the sleeve.
All the work took five months from the author: from January to May of 2013. It has been tested several mounting options stones and the thickness of the ring. The set of test versions of the ring had to throw.
The finished result closeup.
