Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced that he has decided to terminate the operation to enforce peace in South Ossetia. Medvedev said about it on the basis of the report on the situation in the conflict zone at a meeting with Defence Minister Serdyukov and Chief of Staff Makarov. "The safety of our peacekeepers and civilian personnel restored, the aggressor in South Ossetia punished and suffered very significant losses, its armed forces are disorganized," - said Medvedev. He instructed the Minister of Defence to provide military personnel - members of the operation in South Ossetia to the state awards.
Medvedev ordered the Defense Ministry and the General Staff at the new aggression from the Georgian side to make decisions for the destruction of the aggressor.
