How much food prices have changed recently and how much homemade eggs and lard are on the market today
I think you know how painful it is to go shopping before the big holidays. And especially before Easter, when people buy almost everything they see on their way. What are the prices of products And will the Easter basket cost a penny this year? Today I will try to compare the value of past years and find out how much the price tags for food have changed during this time.
On the eve of Easter, the city seems to come alive, and the local markets turn into a real grocery klondike. Sometimes I think you can buy everything, including non-existent unicorn horns.
Sellers call inquisitive buyers, lure them with fresh milk, cottage cheese and eggs. "Everything at home, yours!" Try it! – now and then you hear from behind the counters. And you try and disappear. You just fall into the taste halls: how good is the food, bought not in the store!
Buying products on the market, you also get a piece of love from the person who sells them. However, the market value of food sometimes differs significantly from that set in supermarkets. If you want to feel what really biting prices are, feel free to go to the market.
In Ukraine, food prices are growing like a leap. Unfortunately, the unstable economic situation associated with a full-scale war makes itself felt. I analyzed how much the prices in the market have increased over the past 2 years. And here's what I did.
One of the main market products that can be purchased in meat pavilions is lard. In 2021, 1 kilogram was sold for 100-120 UAH. Today it will have to pay 150-170 hryvnia. Of course, prices in different regions of Ukraine vary. But the essence remains the same: they do not fall, but grow.
If you're going to church at Easter, there must be eggs in your Easter basket. I advise you to choose homemade ones, as they are larger, better and tastier. A dozen large domestic eggs in 2021 can be bought for 30-40 UAH. Now the cost of eggs is 50-60 hryvnia, and it happens that they are sold and 70 UAH.
By the way, my colleague Bogdan Stasyuk recently told how to paint Easter eggs. You'll need a minimum of ingredients. Look for all the details in the article at the link.
In the first two months of 2023, consumer prices in Ukraine increased by 1.5%, and compared to February last year – by 24.9%. Few people are surprised that a kilogram of onions can be bought at the same price as a dozen eggs. But the unpleasant residue still remains. This year's Easter table is going to cost a lot!
Coming to the market and not buying juicy cottage cheese in 2023 is a real crime. Especially since you can make a wonderful cottage cheese. The store product is not suitable for what is sold in the bazaar. A kilogram of cottage cheese in 2021 on average cost 60-90 UAH. And now for the same weight will have to give somewhere 100-120 hryvnia.
Meat prices aren't good either. Chicken fillets can be bought for 130-160 UAH per kilogram, while in 2021 it was sold for 100-115 UAH. Two years ago, a kilogram of pork cost about 130 hryvnia, and now - 180-220 UAH.
Beef is the most expensive. In Kiev in 2021, the average price of beef ranged from 130 hryvnia per kilogram of minced meat to almost 400 hryvnia per kilogram of steak. Today, ground beef is sold for 220-250 UAH. But such prices once again give reason to think about the rejection of meat products. As they say, go vegan!
According to statistics, the prices of vegetables increased the most. This is due to a shortage of internal vegetable stocks. Some products have to be purchased abroad. This greatly increases the final cost of products.
What amazes me most is the price of Bulgarian peppers. On average, it is somewhere 180-210 hryvnia per kilogram. And 2 years ago, the price did not exceed 130 hryvnia. Bitter! But what can you do, you will have to spend money on this product. First of all, the peppers are delicious. And secondly, they contain a huge amount of vitamin C. Take note!
In the future, the situation with prices in the markets and stores will stabilize. In the meantime, we continue to balance on the price swing and choose the best of the possible.
Tell me, have you already made a list of foods to buy for Easter?
