It is interesting that the grandfather of Muslim Magomayev was the famous Azerbaijani composer Abdul-Muslim Magomayev, who is considered one of those who created Azerbaijani classical music.
If we talk about the parents of Muslim Magomayev, the mother of Aishet was a prominent theater actress. The father of the future pop singer Magomet Magomayev before the war was a famous theater artist and animator. With the beginning of the war, the man was drafted into the armed forces, fought valiantly, received many awards. However, he did not live to see the end of the war - he died on April 24, 1945 near Berlin.
As for our hero, he was born on August 17, 1942 in Baku. But after the war with his mother went to Vyshny Volochek (now Tver region), where he received his first education. Still, Aishet, seeing her son’s obvious musical abilities, sent him back to Baku to receive the highest quality education.
Muslim lived in Baku in the family of his uncle. Her mother soon moved to Murmansk to work in the local theater. Later, Aishet married, and the future musician had a brother Yuri and a sister Tatiana.
In Baku, the guy was happy to immerse himself in music. He was listened to the "trophy" records of Italian opera singers (Ruffo, Caruso, Battistini). And every morning he listened to the opera singer Bul-Bul (translated from the Azerbaijani “nightingale”), who by chance lived nearby.
Interestingly, at the school at the Baku Conservatory, where Magomayev was educated, the orders were quite tough. Even music that was not part of the curriculum was banned. And the Muslims, together with the like-minded, had to create a kind of
music-loving. They hid from teachers and spent hours listening to "forbidden melodies."
The students knew by heart the songs of Lolita Torres, listened to the hits of Elvis Presley. And they sang along and even tried to adopt the manner of performing these stars. If teachers learned about this, then under those strict procedures Magomayev could be permanently expelled from school.
Muslim gave his first concert in Baku at the local House of Culture. Although the family and forbade the guy to speak, because they were afraid that it could harm the voice. But the 15-year-old singer decided that his voice was already formed and there were no risks. Still, I had to perform in secret from my family.
At the age of 20, Muslim Magomayev performed at the festival of Azerbaijani art in late March 1963 at the Kremlin Palace of Congresses. It was that performance that allowed the young performer to declare himself to the whole USSR. Already in November of the same year, Magomayev gave a solo concert in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. Then his career only developed rapidly.
The following decades Muslim Magomayev delighted millions of people with his work. His concerts were always going to sell out, and records with his songs were issued in millions of copies. The unique and strong voice of the singer even today sounds magical. It is not surprising that among modern music lovers there are many admirers of the talent of Muslim Magomayev.
