I studied the rules in case of chemical contamination, I hope this knowledge will never be useful.

The war that Russia has unleashed against Ukraine has already brought much suffering, pain and destruction. Every day we hear what other atrocities the enemy is capable of. This time it became known that there is a possibility of the use of chemical weapons by the Russian occupiers. We hope that this will not happen, but just in case we understand what to do if there is an infection with chemicals.

Editorial "Site" It will tell you how to act if Russia commits another crime against humanity and uses chemical weapons.

To begin with, contamination with chemicals can occur not only due to the use of weapons, but also due to the destruction of production facilities. In some areas there are tanks, storage facilities and pipelines with toxic substances. In case of emergency, chemical emissions into the atmosphere are possible. If you react quickly and know what to do, you can greatly reduce the threat.

Possible contamination with chlorine, ammonia and production compounds. The actions in a chemical attack are slightly different. First we will talk about the general rules, and then we will deal with each substance separately.

After receiving the signal “chemical contamination”, you need to follow the following rules:

  1. Don't panic. Try to calm down, because your life depends on it. Rash decisions can be expensive.
  2. The place is safe. Close the windows, doors and vents tightly. Cover the windows with paper or we'll scrape. Turn off the appliances, cut off the water and gas.
  3. Make yourself safe. First of all, you need to protect the respiratory organs. To do this, wear a cotton gauze dressing moistened with water. Prepare clothes that cover the entire body as much as possible. It is better to choose rubber shoes. Safety glasses will also not be superfluous.
  4. Prepare to evacuate. Pack up a disturbing briefcase if it's still not packed. Money, paperwork, food and clean water. Make sure you pack the first aid kit.
  5. Listen to the alerts and follow further instructions.
  6. Help everyone you can. Notify the neighbors of infection. Help the elderly, children, animals out of the house.

While waiting for an evacuation, remember to turn on the radio or TV to hear the information. They can tell you what substance was used. Let’s talk about what to consider when infecting each of them.

If it became known that chlorine poisoning is possible, it is best to moisten the cotton and gauze dressing not just with water, 2–5% solution of drinking soda. While waiting for evacuation, it is best to occupy the upper floors of buildings. If it is not possible to leave the building, it is important to minimize outside air.

A victim of chlorine infection should be moved from the contaminated area to clean air as soon as possible. After that, it should be tightly covered and allowed to breathe with oxygen, water vapor or an aerosol of 0.5% solution of drinking soda for 15 minutes. The skin, mouth and nose should be washed with a solution of drinking soda or water with soap. Remember, the main means of fighting chlorine is water.

Ammonia infection During infection with ammonia, you can protect yourself with a cotton gauze dressing dipped in a solution of acetic or citric acid (also 2–5%). While waiting for information in case of ammonia, it is best to take shelter in basements or shelters.

In case of ammonia poisoning, the victim should be removed from the affected area as soon as possible. Skin, nose and mouth wash with water. Two drops of albucid can be instilled in the eyes (30%). Find a doctor who can provide qualified help.

Again, avoid panic. It is important to leave the infected area as soon as possible. Leave the room carefully, going down the stairs. Don't run outside, don't touch anything, go around puddles. It is also not worth eating or drinking anything.

Leave the affected area carefully, in a direction perpendicular to the wind direction. Bypass tunnels and ravines, there may be high concentrations of chemicals. The less panic, the better the chance of getting out unharmed. I hope this advice will never be useful to you. Take care of yourself and your loved ones!
