“The country of doubles and unemployed!” – the Russian told the whole truth about life in Italy

Who hasn't thought about us? cross-country... Thoughts about a serene life in warm countries now and then annoyingly excite the mind. But is everything as fabulous in foreign lands as we imagine? One of our compatriots decided to dispel the myth of the beautiful life.

Life in Italy

Elena and her husband went to his historical homeland, Sardinia. There the man was waiting for a new job, and the young wife – a short maternity leave. But after 5 years, the couple decided to move to England. What is it about the life of this world?

  1. Lifestyle
The first word she heard in Italian was domani, meaning “tomorrow.” These people are in no hurry to do anything and prefer to postpone important things until tomorrow, but the promised “tomorrow” never comes. Education in Italy is not inferior to the level of Russian, but many children learn through their sleeves. They don’t mind staying in their second year or graduating at 20.

Italians have an eternal siesta: no one is in a hurry, everything can be done later. And at lunch you should definitely sleep for two hours, or better - three. Most shops are closed at this time.

  2. Attitudes towards visitors
Even if you learn Italian as well as Russian, the locals will still consider you a foreigner. This is especially true of business. To open a small establishment in the south, it's a hell of a connection.

Often, talented people are simply not allowed to reveal their potential, since the vacant place has already been prepared for some talentless relative. That is why amateurs and ignorant people work in many areas.

  3. Taxes.
Taxation in Italy is a separate issue. It's so harsh that small businesses simply don't survive under its pressure. For example, if you opened a small cafeteria, the tax office can visit your institution at any time and check the documents. Based on general data, the inspection authorities calculate the tax in advance! They plan approximately how many visitors will come and how much money will be paid.

  4. Marriage
Gathering marriedOur wife should understand that the law will always be on the side of the spouse. If for some reason you break up, be prepared to take the children out of the country will be problematic. Also, if his mother stands on the way to your happiness with her husband, you should not entertain yourself with hopes that he will take your side. For most Italians, mother is more important than wife.

  5. Money.
Despite the lazy pace of life, the money issue is very acute in Italy. People try to hold on to their work to the last, so you can often find a waiter who is under 60. Their salaries are quite small, about $1,000 a month, which is enough to make ends meet.

Elena talks about housing prices and utilities: “We didn’t live in the very center, so renting a three-bedroom apartment cost about 500-600 euros.”

“Heating, garbage collection and gas are separately paid. This takes 100-150 euros. The cost of food was 300-400 euros. For this amount we bought only the most necessary. In England we eat like we never ate in Italy.

It should be noted that Elena and her husband are very active people with career ambitions, perhaps, so life in Sardinia seemed to them too measured and unpromising.
