When was the last time you saw a real second year or two
Many of us can remember the horror that arose at the thought of a deuce in the scoreboard. But even more terrifying was the likelihood of staying for a second year. After all, being a second year meant covering yourself with shame and literally falling behind your peers. But when was the last time you saw a real second year? Or a double?
Before, when our parents were in school themselves, very often they saw or heard about the guys who stayed in the second year. Since this was a real prospect in the eyes of the student, the child made every effort not to become a negative example for the younger. I mean, they did their best.
Of course, not everyone was just trying for evaluation. But it was the only way to stay in the circle of friends and comrades. In the worldview of the student, the change of team was the change of everything. And the gap between high and low school became an insurmountable social barrier to communication.
There is practically no such problem nowadays. Twos are put solely to attract the attention of parents, and in the scoreboard the grades are deliberately pulled up to threes and sent further up the school ladder.
If earlier parents were responsible for the child’s academic performance, now this burden lies on the shoulders of the teacher. Bad grade? So they've been poorly trained. The teacher did not pay enough attention, did not try. Parents may be unhappy. On this basis, it is no longer so willing to put two in a quarter. This does not take into account paperwork.
Starting with a detailed explanatory note on the student’s academic performance, the teacher will also have to provide a program for additional classes during extracurricular hours. All this ends with a conversation with the principal, who explains why a second-year student is bad for the school's rankings and funding opportunities. A cornered teacher has no choice but to put a three and forget it like a terrible dream.
Where did the two-year-olds go? They just became good guys for the good of all. But, unfortunately, this does not change the sad fact that the child does not learn. And horror stories like “do you want to stay for a second year?” are simply irrelevant. It's not good for school.
It turns out that year after year, without knowledge and without aspirations, a child goes to the next class, where he will learn in the same way. The system works, the main promotion up, two students do not bother anyone. Children understand this perfectly, willingly adjusting to the general order of things. Unfortunately, knowledge is not a priority.
Is it necessary to leave the child for the second year if he is a double? Who is responsible for the child’s success? Share your opinion in the comments.
