Who to rescue first in case of fire, wife or child

One of Socrates’ books mentions a curious dialogue. He asked his students, Who they would save first. In case of a house fire, your child or your wife. The answers were the same, they all chose children. Socrates himself said that he would choose a wife, which angered most of those present. These are the questions of Socrates that concern us now. Who would you choose?

My friend, who, by the way, is a great lover of Socrates, asked this question to her husband. She received an unoriginal response. But when he got to work, he couldn’t get Socrates’ interpretation of this dilemma out of his head. He interviewed his employees, which almost created a huge scandal.

Everyone was arguing about what a fool Socrates was and how to choose a wife over a child. Anyway, we had a fight with the whole office. Only The guard grandfather did not participate. in a massive dispute. All that was allowed was the boss, who looked out of his office and said that he had to work.

Going home, the husband of a friend approached the guard and asked him the same question. Grandpa thought for a moment and said,

“You know, my wife gave me three wonderful children. Not like grandchildren, great-grandchildren. The children have dispersed across the country. They come to the holidays, they take care of them. But all these years my wife was always with me. My old lady and I are always on the same wavelength, although we sometimes quarrel with whom it does not happen. I would have saved her...

After that, my husband and I, and my husband, thought about it. Do we have the right attitude towards our family and partner?. Perhaps it is the wife's business to save the children, and the husband's business to save the wife herself?

Every mother will rush to save her child first. But for the husband it should be more important than the child. After all, this is what he once chose and loved.

Socrates’ question remains a pressing one, for his answer depends in fact on many points. For example, from relationships in the family, the age of the children, the number of these children. But it is clear that Socrates merely put before his disciples logic. He described the situation in such a way that one should not rely on generally accepted moral values, but rather on common sense.

If Socrates decided to save the child, there would be no more joy in his life. Looking at a child, he would always remember his wife and miss her. And his wife could give him another one.

On the one hand, our lives are full of sensual things. It's love, affection, jealousy, passion, resentment, anger... But if we were to make all of life’s most important decisions based only on our experience and our emotions, the world would plunge into chaos. Unfortunately, and perhaps fortunately, the world is not just about love. They're more of a dessert, something insanely pleasant, but not the most important.

The sooner we reach this conclusion in our own way, the happier we will become. Who would you save? Wife or child?
