Apply a couple drops of oil on your shoes and rub the surface with old tights. They absorb oil well and carefully polish shoes even from the most delicate skin.
It lasts a long time, and you can always wash it. It turns out to be a great budget replacement for shop sponges.
Universal nutrient cream based on castor will need wax, turpentine and castor oil. Heat 6 parts of wax in a water bath. Add 2 parts turpentine and oil.
