South America will be able to switch completely to green energy by 2030

Full transition to electricity from renewable sources is the best option for countries in South America, and it can be done in as little as 15 years, according to a published Finnish scientists report.
Scientists, Lappeenranta University of Technology together with Research centre of Finland have come to the conclusion that the transition to energy generated entirely from renewable sources, it is possible for South America, and achievable by 2030. The report proves that this is the best option for the region from an economic point of view, and does not require large capacity energy storage.
The study was conducted in the framework of a larger project, Neo-Carbon Energy, in which the two organizations are studying different regions of the world. They have published results on the largest Asian markets are Finland, Russia and Central Asia, as well as a large survey that shows how soon the entire world could switch to renewable energy.
A new report says that the energy cost after the transition will be from $50 to $60 per MWh, depending on the specific model selected. The authors divide South America into 15 areas and three different levels of development of the electricity grid, and offer them three different scenarios, whereas "integration of seawater desalination and natural gas to generate electricity is considered in the fourth scenario," the report said.
South America has rich natural resources: Patagonia — one of the best from the point of view of wind power places on the planet, the Atacama desert for solar. Also large quantities are used for hydroelectric power. "For these reasons, South America is one of the most preferred regions for the transition to 100% renewable energy," says Professor Christian Breyer.
In August at auction in Chile were offered a record low price for solar energy was 2.91 cents per kWh. This will allow in the next ten years to reduce the electricity tariffs for consumers by 25%. published
