Who is the Okapi?
Republic of the Congo is the only place on Earth where there are Okapi. These vulnerable sensitive animals are afraid of drafts and cold, painfully react to a change of scenery. So painful that often die in captivity. His coat is a beautiful chocolate color, legs stripes, like a Zebra. And on a light beige head with thin, if I may say so about the animal, facial features, big ears. When Europeans in the early twentieth century recognized the existence of the Okapi, they didn't believe at first, and then began to decide to which species to refer to a new beast.
After having carefully considered brought from the Congo, pieces of skin Okapi (alas, Yes – the local people, the pygmies, shamelessly hunt for a rare animal), the scientists were surprised – an animal that wears this outfit, unknown to science. After much deliberation, it was called "the Johnston horse", named after the man, who grabbed the coveted skin. But the horse Okapi has nothing.
He is not an exotic Zebra. He was a relative... Yes, giraffe. If you look closely, they are similar. Those long graceful legs, a similar shape of the head and ears. Yes and neck of an Okapi is long, though not like a giraffe. It turns out that the Okapi has not grown a long neck simply because he didn't need it as you need giraffe. Because okapis live in impenetrable thickets, where the leaves and grass are low, and a four-foot growth Okapi is enough. Than more like the Okapi and giraffes, this language. The Okapi he is so long and bluish.
Also stretching it, the Okapi gets the leaves wrapped around and attracts branch. This language is so long that the Okapi can wash out their eyes. So nobody noticed that the Okapi was deeply moved, perhaps. And sad Okapi is why, probably, they live alone, only during the mating season, making a pair. The Okapi is very shy, and although and are diurnal, they always want to crawl off into the thicket. Well, for the Okapi is the only way of protection.
Long lurking in the bushes and a little baby Okapi, responding only to the voice of the mother. And this voice is quite quiet – because the Okapi no vocal cords. So mumble and primitivity they can only force out air from the lungs.
