Blue river of Greenland

A visit to Greenland in the polar expedition is a great adventure. Much of Greenland is covered by an extensive layer of ice known as “ice shield of Greenland”, which stretches 2,400 km from North to South, 1100 miles at its widest point. Ice with a thickness of 2 to 3 km is the proof that this ice sheet begins to melt, causing concern of many scientists and environmentalists.

In the summer the ice melts, causing a small flow of streams, which eventually merge into larger streams and eventually become rivers. Water has an amazing color of dark aquamarine. Breathtaking scenery of white ice with blue rivers, and small black spots formed by atmospheric soot, can not but cause admiration. Narrow or wide, they flow curves, like a magic river to the Land of fabulous.

The Petermann glacier is the largest floating glacier in the Northern hemisphere, located in North-Western Greenland. Three researchers spent three months in Greenland exploring these glaciers and changes due to global warming. They found a beautiful river, created by melting glaciers. It was called the Blue River because of its beauty, it has attracted large number of tourists from all over the world.

But this beautiful river is also a symbol of a vanishing world and a kind of warning to us all. According to satellite data, ice melts in Greenland four times quicker than a decade ago.
