3D projection on trees
As recognized by the French photo artist Clement bien (Clement Briend), the purpose of the light installation "Cambodian Trees" wasn't just creating a fantastic surprise for the locals. Environmental project shows the awakening of the ancient Cambodian spirits and deities as if they are trees.
Created digital led projector image appears among the trees on the background of night city — these ghostly 3D projections cause an incredible sense of reality and of unreality at the same time.
The author is not accidentally combined the high technology and the echoes of the ancient culture: it showed the inhabitants of the capital Phnom Penh (Phnom Penh) that even today it is possible to combine the high technological level of the society and nature, realizing it is through art.
What environmental problems is trying to tell the artist? Until the mid 60-ies of the last century more than 75% of the country was occupied by tropical rainforest, inhabited by a huge number of wild animals is inhabited by elephants, tigers, leopards, rhinos, several dozen species of monkeys and crocodiles, many species of exotic butterflies, reptiles and birds.
However, by the early 21st century, because of uncontrolled human activities, survived less than half of these natural resources. 54% of the forests were cut down – the land was occupied by agricultural crops (mainly rice) and turned into a deserted wasteland in the place of the felling of trees.
Despite the historical legacy, today Cambodia pays a lot of attention to the protection of natural and historical monuments. In the far North and North-East of the country, as well as in mountainous areas, preserved the major forest areas of relict tropical rain forests, mangrove thickets, and evergreen woodlands. On the whole territory of the country's 23 National Park.
Parisian photographer went to Cambodia to work on an unusual project in the city festival with the support of the local School of fine arts (l'ecole des Beaux-Arts).
For Clement, this experience was not radically new: since 2008, he deals with the projection of two-dimensional images on various objects of city architecture and landscape, successfully transforming them into volumetric artistic composition. However, working with the leaves of the trees – a task much more troublesome, because of heterogeneous structure of the crown is not like the smooth concrete walls of the buildings.
Eco-friendly works of French artists offers viewers a different perception of the images in "hybrid spaces": a mysterious, poetic and evocative imagination. The combination of photography, sculpture, and nature demonstrates the creative and innovative way for the artist, allowing you to interact with natural and urban surroundings.
