The Heavenly Sanctuary Of Jasma Of Turrell

Sometimes you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Flip a switch and find yourself in complete silence, alone with nature. Look at the bugs, the clouds that fly over head and just lie on the ground.

Sometimes this help different parks and alleys, but, unfortunately, they are poorly protected from external factors, and passers-by sometimes spoil the picture, not allowing to be alone with yourself and your thoughts.

These were the motives of Jasma of Turrell (James Turrell), when he was building his island of calm amongst the city — "Hemels Gewelf" (the heavenly Sanctuary), which was created in the seaside resort of Kijkduin (Kijkduin), the Netherlands.

On top of the largest of the dunes have created an artificial crater, which you can get into only through a circular corridor with length of six meters. Passing through it you gradually lose touch with the world, and be alone with the sky, hitting a perfect round bowl.

In the middle of grassy island, there is a bench, which resembles a tomb, perfectly arranged in order that people can lie back, relax and enjoy in absolute silence flying overhead. The sky looks like a dome, which rests on the green Bank.
