Created a giant robot praying mantis

A bunch of crazy scientific minds of Micromagic Systems under the leadership of Matt Denton for the last four years working on a four-legged robot "Mantis" ("Mantis"), rather like a spider and is designed to transport people. The resulting sample was given a definition of "sarojadevi the biggest robot hexapod in the world."

It is as much as 1,900 kg, ROS — 2.8 meter, it works on the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine Perkins and stuffed with various sensors (including force transducers, angle sensors, tilt and inclinometer) that help him to walk. To coordinate the motion of the robot uses a HexEngine, a Linux PC that monitors the movement of hydraulic actuators 18 mounted in the legs. Additional computer panel located in the cockpit, allows the robot to operate.

"It's definitely the largest hexapod we have ever built",

says Micromagic founder and chief engineer of the "Mantis" Matt Denton.

His company was engaged in manufacturing animatronics for the film and TV industry before. For example, his robots were used in the filming of virtually all parts of "Harry Potter". But "Mantis", it's more a passion project than the inventor, which he eventually brought to reality.

Projects like "Mantis" is not the first of its kind. At the same exhibition CES 2013 showed a large robot spider, although the size of it was smaller than the creation of Denton.
