IBM Watson supercomputer learned to cook pies
Every year the computers become more powerful and smarter, but can they be truly creative? IBM decided that, Yes: the scientists, the company made a special computer program Watson, which combines the processing of large volumes of data and specific knowledge in the field of chemistry. In other words, they wanted to teach the machine to invent recipes. The result was a success: as the leader of team Lava Varshneya, Wаtson learned to come up with paradoxical, but tasty dishes – for example, Kenyan casserole with Brussels sprouts or Swiss-Thai pie with asparagus and custard.
During development of the algorithm, the researchers decided to mimic the creative process of man. The generation of a new recipe for a delicious dish consists of five stages. In the first stage, scientists have set the computer the task – a sample of the dishes that I would like to try, and pointed out the kitchen and the main ingredient. In the second stage, Watson taught and analyzed everything he could find on the topic.
In the third stage, the computer generates new recipes, altering and mixing is already known. In the fourth stage, he selected the most quality results – that is the most delicious (here and useful knowledge of chemistry) and different from the existing options.
Remember that developed a new 3D printer that will prepare culinary masterpieces.
