Between heaven and earth – a skyscraper monument in China
Thirty years ago, in the mid-eighties of the twentieth century, Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping decided to liberalize the country’s economy, partially transferring it to capitalist lines. Thus began the Chinese economic miracle, which led to the transformation of this state into one of the centers of financial and industrial life of the world.
One of the first cities where the growth of production in China began is Tianjin, which became a free economic zone in the eighties as part of the so-called Bohai Ring. Here is the 30th anniversary of these events and dedicated to the future appearance in Tianjin large-scale monument “Between heaven and earth”.
The sculpture will be designed by architect Rafael de La Hoz. Structurally, it is a huge inclined volume, somewhat similar to the Olympic torch. If, of course, assume that such an object can have 60 meters in height, which is approximately equal to the size of a twenty-storey building.
A greater resemblance to the torch of the sculpture “Between Heaven and Earth” will be given by a ray of light beaming from the ground to its end, and reflected from a mirror installed on top of the object.
The construction of this giant sculpture will begin in late spring – early summer. And the opening of the work of Rafael de La Jose is scheduled for December 6, 2014 – the thirtieth birthday of the free economic zone in the city of Tianjin.
