Apple has acquired a hydroelectric power plant

Apple has large data centers that require huge amount of electricity to support thousands of computers, storing photos, music and digital information of all kinds.

Even just cooling this amount of equipment — not an easy task. For its data centers the company uses only alternative energy sources.

At the moment, its new center in Prineville is supplied with energy from local wind turbines.

In addition, the possibility of installation of solar panels like those that Apple uses in North Carolina, but the company settled on another option. She acquired a small hydroelectric power plant thirty kilometers from Prineville.

It is reported that the plant produces from 3 to 5 mW. A new hydroelectric power plant generated electricity will be sufficient to illuminate and warm from 2 to 3.5 thousand buildings, and the area of structure is about 45 miles. HPP is located in Oregon, near the date-Apple servers are responsible for the iCloud. The amount for which purchased the facility, is not specified.

Meanwhile, large data centers require more than 30 mW. In addition to the winter station is not functioning. So obviously, this hydroelectric dam will not be able to fully satisfy Apple's needs in energy.
