15 ways to get rid of hiccups
Such a highly irritating and spontaneous phenomenon as hiccups can put us in an awkward position, starting at the most inopportune moment. You don’t have to wait for the hiccups to pass by themselves. You can use folk remedies that suppress the activity of the irritated vagus nerve that causes a hiccup attack. For example:
1. Put a teaspoon of sugar on the back of your tongue.
2. Put your fingers in your ears. This should stimulate the ear branch of the vagus nerve.
3. Rinse your throat with water for a while.
4. Breathe through a paper bag (only for a short time, otherwise you can lose consciousness) to distract the nervous system, as the level of carbon dioxide in the body will begin to increase.
5. Eat a large tablespoon of peanut butter. The process of chewing a sticky consistency should “distract” the breath from the hiccups.
