The old man and the sea, Ernest Hemingway

This book gave Hemingway the Pulitzer and the Nobel prize. Not bad for a book in 110 pages!

The story of the fisherman Santiago is the story of the difficult path of man on earth, every day struggling for life, however, seeking to coexist in harmony and peace with the world, aware of itself, not alone as in previous works of the writer, and a particle of a huge and beautiful world.

The Outsider, Albert Camus

This is the work of another Nobel laureate, but of a very different nature than rough works of Hemingway.

In the book made to see the preaching of absolute freedom. "The stranger" tells the story of a man, Meursault, his fault that he's not playing by the rules imposed upon him, that he refuses to lie to yourself and others. This refusal to play by anyone's rules, and turns him into an outsider, a "stranger" to society.

Animal farm, George Orwell

All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others

A hundred pages of Orwell draws a revolution on a farm where animals expel their masters, and the disappearance of utopia. Mindless sheep, going after every dictator, pigs, everywhere looking for their benefits, smart-ass, seeing what is happening around, but nothing to make, and worker-horse, blindly believing in authority.

On the Western front, E. M. Remarque

"This book is neither an accusation nor a confession. This is only an attempt to describe the generation that ruined the war, those who became its victim, even if escaped shells"

This is the story of a lost generation of young people went to the front during the first world war. The hero of the book Paul Baumer tells about the people, cut off from the quiet life, but also about those who was waiting for them at home. Before the war these boys admired the patriotism, as well as the epic poems of Homer. When the war came, all the friends of Beumer were killed, and he realizes that he no longer cares about the future.

The sorrows of young Werther, I. V. Goethe

The novel caused when it appeared a passionate response in the hearts of his contemporaries, is one of the finest novels about love, which Goethe definitely and earnestly recreated the psychology of passion, the uniqueness of the female and male feelings.

The novel is told in letters between the temperamental young man Werther and his more relaxed friend.

The Picture Of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde

Young Dorian gray is conscious of the beauty, looking at her own portrait, which was written for him by the artist. He wants to remain forever young and beautiful, and his image was getting old for him. This impulse changes his life forever. For external beauty, he paid the internal. In the end, he realizes that the main in man is soul, but it is too late.

The little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery

This poetic tale about courage and wisdom artless child's soul, about such important "adult" concepts as life and death, love and responsibility, friendship and loyalty.

One of those books for children, actually, which is a book for all ages. Deceptively simple in structure, this book tells the story of a Prince, ruling on the asteroid, and his adventures. The adults he meets, ruled by their own asteroids and are comic masterpieces. Some readers find the end of the book a bit difficult for the children, and some consider it complex and for adults.

A clockwork orange, Anthony Burgess

Perhaps the most infamous book on this list written by Bergeson three weeks to quickly make money. Later, the author would never even start this book by saying she was misunderstood. The story tells about a gang of violent teenagers. The book does not hide the details, and the narrator, Alex, speaks calmly about it. And the last Chapter of the book changes the meaning of the whole story. The book is worth reading, especially if you like the films of Stanley Kubrick.
