Scientists have discovered what determines the tolerance for pain
Researchers have identified key genes explain why some people have higher pain threshold than others.
The author of the study Tobore Onegigabit said: "Our study is quite significant because it provides an objective way to understand pain and why different people have different levels of pain threshold." The researchers assessed 2721 persons with a diagnosis of chronic pain for certain genes. The researchers found that the DRD1 gene variant was 33 percent more common in the group with low level of pain. DRD2 was 25 percent more common among those who had high pain perception.
"Chronic pain can affect all other parts of life," said the researcher. "The discovery of genes that may be play a role in pain perception could provide a target for developing new therapies and help physicians better understand patient perceptions of pain".
