Greenpeace activists trying to block Russian tanker with Arctic oil

A recent stay behind bars does not stop Greenpeace activists from trying to stop the production of oil by Russia in the Arctic. The Russian tanker is in the port of Rotterdam, Netherlands with a cargo of Arctic oil.

The crew of the ship "Rainbow Warrior" had attempted to block the first batch of Russian crude oil produced on the Arctic shelf. The crew were members of the expedition, who were arrested by Russian authorities in September last year and released on Amnesty before the winter Olympics.

This time, Greenpeace was arrested by the police of the Netherlands. The ship of the environmental group were to take on Board the ship when the first tried to block the passage of the tanker with a cargo of Arctic oil. Nevertheless, the activists managed to leave the inscription on Board the vessel "Mikhail Ulyanov" with a residence permit in the Russian Federation: "No Arctic oil".

Activists shut down in one of the cabins the "Rainbow Warrior". On the shore, the ship's captain was taken into custody. It happened last Thursday, at approximately 09:15 UTC time.

Extraction of Arctic oil is extremely dangerous event for the local flora and fauna that are already on the verge of extinction a large number of unique species due to global warming.
