Google invests 100 million in solar panels for Americans
Google recently announced the largest purchase of renewable energy. And that's not counting the recent purchase of Titan Aerospace and the cost of providing electricity to 170,000 homes in Texas.
Immediately after Earth Day, the company announced a partnership with SunPower Corporation, a manufacturer of solar equipment, and the establishment of a Fund for $ 250 million. USA to buy and then rent out thousands of solar panels to American homeowners.
As claimed by both companies, this initiative will do for Americans, solar energy is more accessible, because "the price will be much lower than the standard rate of electricity."
To start this ambitious initiative, Google has contributed $ 100 million in cash, while SunPower provided the remaining $ 150 million.
The reason for choosing this Google explains in its press release:
"SunPower delivers solar energy for residential, commercial sector and utility companies. Also is a manufacturer of solar cells and panels. They are known for their high quality and high reliability panels.
And panel new generation of SPR-315 allows you to receive up to 50 percent more energy with the same area, using half the number of conventional panels. This means that we can install fewer solar panels, obtaining the same or greater amount of electrical energy. She SunPower manufactures and installs solar panels, so the process will not cause trouble".
Google explained how to pass the initiative: "using the Fund, we buy the solar panel. After we lease them to homeowners at a cost typically lower than their normal electricity bill. Thus, by participating in this program, you are not just able to help the environment, you can also save money."
Lease (i.e. financial lease with subsequent purchase of the property) of the solar equipment is becoming more and more popular option for those who want to use solar energy directly "from the roof" but is unable (or unwilling) to make the initial investment.
Leasing solar panels often means that all maintenance and repairs responsible is the company that owns the equipment. However, American clients, in this case, it is likely to lose the Federal tax credit and any discounts from a leasing company.
Unlike other leasing companies involved in solar equipment that make up a homeowners agreement for 10-15 years, the initiative SunPower/Google will give their customers the opportunity to purchase the entire system after six years or at the end of the lease term. Both companies hope that as a result, thousands of homeowners will be able to join the initiative and some 20,000 Americans are already leasing SunPower equipment.
