Glowing mouse will show where nanoparticles accumulate

Mouse, glowing under UV light, show how the accumulation of nanoparticles in the body.

Nanoparticles are increasingly used in water purification, food packaging, cosmetics. However, the scientists could not estimate the quantitative accumulation of nanoparticles in body tissues without damaging them. The researchers introduced a light-sensitive nanoparticles, a few nanometers in diameter. They can be seen on the skin of mice exposed to UV-radiation using the method of atomic emission spectroscopy.

Warren Chan of the University of Toronto found that the concentration of particles in the skin of rodents is directly connected with the input dose and accumulation in other organs. Scientists hope that this discovery will be used for more accurate predictions of how nanoparticles behave in the body.
