In New York water live miniature shrimp
Water Week is celebrated in New York this month. In this regard, experts studied the composition of the water that citizens drink, gaining from the water supply. Previously, tap water in New York was considered very clean and pleasant to taste. The latest study determined that it is inhabited by tiny shrimp copepods, which got there for a reason, reports Inhabitat.
In some US states, copepods are specially added to the water to kill mosquitoes: these crustaceans feed on mosquito larvae. They were first spotted in New York City’s drinking water by rabbis at a local synagogue, who questioned whether the city’s water is now kosher and whether vegans can drink it.
Many supporters of the rejection of animal food do not consider copepods dangerous to their morals, because they are not animals. But the Jews are worried, because the list of kosher food does not include any type of shrimp and lobster. However, this should apply only to creatures visible to the naked eye.
