Owls by photographers Jari Peltomaki and David Tipling
Owls are perhaps one of the most unique birds in the world, which are not so easy to meet in nature. However, real experts and lovers of these birds know the places in which they are found. All these wonderful pictures of owls were taken by famous naturalist photographers Jari Peltomaki and David Tipling.

For example, this miniature sparrow owl, which is the smallest of the European owls, got stuck in deep snow in Oulo, Finland. Before landing on the snow-white surface, he sat proudly on a high pine tree.

When I saw this cute baby stuck in the snow, I knew I had to capture this rare moment immediately. It doesn’t happen every day, says Jari Peltomaki. He did not fall into the snow easily, so he hunted, trying to catch a vole hiding under the snow. By the way, the rodent could not escape this clever hunter.

The sparrow owl stared down, listening attentively for 30 seconds. He probably heard a vole moving under the snow. A moment later, he was lying in the snow near me, the 48-year-old continues. When he was looking for a vole, his head was completely under the snow, but then he came out, and in his beak was a mouse, with which he flew away. His entire hunt lasted no more than 15 seconds!

The photographer was very excited to witness the scene and to capture it on camera. And here is another wonderful photo in which the owl sticks its head out of a large hole in a tree and seems to wink at the photographer. This is a female furry-legged owl looking directly at the camera lens in the forests of Siikajoki (Finland).

Jari Peltomaki installed hundreds of nest boxes for owls in the Finnish forests, especially many of them are installed for furry owls. And this female lingered inside literally for a few minutes while I walked around the tree, choosing the right angle for shooting. And then I saw her wink. It actually looked very funny! recalls Mr. Peltomaki. It was like thanking me for the nest boxes!
