Across America Without Gasoline: Tesla's record-breaking car rally

27 states, 12,000 miles and no gas. This is a brief summary of a never-before-seen electric car ride across the United States. The Epic Electric American Road Trip ended in Venice, California on Earth Day on April 22, 2014.

Norman Hajjar, Managing Director of Recargo’s PlugInsights Research Division, spent 213 hours driving a Tesla Model S electric vehicle to prove that long-duration electric travel is possible in the U.S. today, with the current level of charging infrastructure.

The Trans-American “electric rally” was organized to draw attention to electric vehicles as a reliable, convenient and environmentally friendly mode of transportation. The second goal of the run is to demonstrate how much America needs a developed network of car electric charging stations, which, as you can see, quite succeeded. While the total duration of the trip was 213 hours, the total battery charge time was 109.

According to Hajar, he made the longest journey by car to date using purely electrical energy. Now the enthusiast is trying to get official recognition of his achievement from the Guinness Book of Records.

It took Hajar 24 days to complete the Epic Electric American Road Trip, during which the speedometer readings of his Tesla Model S increased by 12,183 miles (19492.8 km). The route of the electric epic took place in 27 states, from Washington to Florida, and ended in Venice, California, at the office of Recargo.

Along the way, the Model S was charged at stations on Tesla’s “Supercharger” network. “We wanted to illustrate the capabilities of the country’s charging infrastructure and draw attention to the needs of its further improvement,” said Norman Hajar. The reality of the massive shift to electric vehicles in America simply cannot be separated from the need for a reliable network of fast charging stations. I traveled over 12,000 miles in three and a half weeks. With the right infrastructure, nothing is impossible for an electric vehicle.”

The electric road epic was covered all over the Internet. On the website of the rally and Twitter regularly published live news and photos, noted the location of the electric car on the route.

mileage sponsor Recargo is a leading provider of software and power grid services for vehicles. The company’s mobile app contains information about 48,000 charging stations around the world.
