Historic castle in the countryside Warickshire
How many more of these similar structures, or simply abandoned castles, who remained alone with his story?! This castle was given a new life, his inspiration and created a wonderful building, whose walls keep a long history.
Astley castle originally served as a manor of the Royal family for three generations before it was turned into a hotel during the Second world war. It is located in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, United Kingdom. Last year this place was heavily destroyed and had guests only from those who knew about its location and history. However, recently it was decided to reconstruct.
A charity staged a contest to attract architects to enable them to provide their ideas of the reconstruction of this unique building and grounds which it is attached. Located on the premises of the Church, the lake and the remains of the Elizabethan gardens. To complete the project was selected by the London architect, Witherford Watson Mann breathed new life into the ancient construction. Before the designers was a question of reconstruction, especially given a project of such scale, had to be a connection between the new and old parts, and how the new structure can strengthen a collapsing building?
On the establishment and the radical change in design of the question, so the architects decided to only restore the most of what's already here. Of course, the main element in the renovation was the brick, because it is from him originally the building was created. Thus, came a very interesting combination, which emphasizes how old this building is and what his story was. Keeping obvious differences between the new and old parts, we can see well the character of this castle. Also, it helped new elements in the construction of a smooth transition from the existing elements.
The construction team worked hand in hand with archaeologists to prepare the site for installation of new materials. Large concrete lintels and other larger structural materials was built into the outer frame, which also complicated the construction process. Was used a special technology to do everything as natural as possible. Did the whole team what they have planned? Definitely came out very well — it was an unusual reconstruction, because often in these things we can not distinguish where it was laid new brick, where is the brick, which makes this place historical. Here everything is seen and you can touch!
